International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated every year on March 8th to honor the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. This day provides an opportunity to celebrate the progress made in advancing women's rights and gender equality while also highlighting the continued work needed to achieve true equity for all women.
Women with disabilities make up a significant proportion of the world's population, yet their experiences are often overlooked and marginalized. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 15% of the world's population lives with some form of disability, and women with disabilities are more likely to experience poverty, violence, and discrimination than non-disabled women.
Sri Lanka Girl Guides Differently Abled Branch has planned to celebrate this centenary year with the objective of giving an opportunity for the Guides with different abilities to showcase their hidden talents to the entire world.
