Vesak Celebrations - Homagama Zone

On May 16, 2024, the Homagama Zone of the Colombo District organized a memorable Vesak festival at M.D.H. Jayawardena Junior School. The program included a variety of activities designed to engage participants and honor the spirit of Vesak.
The event commenced with a Dharma sermon, providing attendees with spiritual insights and reflections. Following this, a session was held where participants could prepare Vesak lanterns, a traditional activity symbolizing enlightenment and wisdom. The exchange of Vesak cards among sister Guides fostered a sense of community and camaraderie, while the performance of Bakthi Gee, devotional songs, added a harmonious and reflective note to the proceedings.
The festival was supported by key figures, including Ms. Dilhani Wijewardane, the Principal of M.D.H. Jayawardena Junior School, Ms. Ayanga Wijesinghe, the Vice Principal and the Sylvanna of the school and Ms. Ishenka Udeshinie Fernando, the Zonal Commissioner, were instrumental in organizing the event. Their involvement underscored the school's commitment to cultural and spiritual education.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 150 individuals, demonstrating a strong community interest and involvement. This large turnout further enhanced the festive and inclusive spirit of the celebration.
